“Step number one for changing the entire world, is falling in love with it as it already is. The same is true for changing yourself.” – Mike Dooley, motivational author
At first pass, this quote may not sound correct. If I fall in love with my ‘current’ state, what would motivate me to change it? Think about the following image – someone falling in love with a fixer-upper house. He/she is not falling in love with the raggedy, worn down ‘current’ state of that house, but the ‘future’ state that only he/she can see. That person sees the finished product, the strong finish that can only be achieved through hard work, patience, and perseverance. Moving from that image to our current reality, how ‘in love’ are you with yourself, your family, your job, your company, your community, your world? It’s only through that foundation of love that you will find the motivation to do the work that results in lasting, significant change.
